Montgomeryshire Conservatives are delighted to have selected Craig Williams as their prospective MP for when the next UK General Election is called.
Craig Williams, who was born in Welshpool and now lives in Llanfair Caereinion, was selected at a meeting which was held today (Saturday) at a special meeting of Montgomeryshire Conservatives.
The selection of a prospective MP follows the announcement by current Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies to not stand for re-election at the next General Election due in 2022. Glyn has represented Montgomeryshire for the last nine years and has fought tirelessly on local issues.
Prospective MP Craig Williams said:
“I’d like to thank the members and officers of the Montgomeryshire Conservatives. I am passionate about Montgomeryshire. It is my home, where I grew up and where my wife and I are raising our children. If the people of Montgomeryshire put their faith in me, I will do all I can to be a strong voice for Montgomeryshire in Westminster.”
Welsh Assembly Member, Russell George AM, said,
“It has been a great pleasure to work alongside Glyn for the best part of decade, working together to promote and protect Montgomeryshire’s interests in Westminster and Cardiff Bay. We shall continue to work closely to help constituents and I’m very much looking forward to including Craig Williams as a member of our Montgomeryshire Conservative team. I have known Craig for many years, Craig understands local concerns and is campaigning on the issues that matter to the people of mid-Wales.”
Commenting on the selection, Glyn Davies MP, said:
“Craig is a fantastic community champion, who understands the needs of local people and the specific issues that we face here in rural mid-Wales. I have no doubt that Craig will follow in my footsteps and be a strong voice for Montgomeryshire in Westminster.”
Ruth Canning, Chair of Montgomeryshire Conservatives, added:
“Over the last nine years Glyn has been a dedicated and committed Member of Parliament for the people of Montgomeryshire and although it will be sad not to have Glyn as our MP, we’re delighted that Craig Williams will continue Glyn’s fight for local services and making sure the challenges of a rural area like ours is not forgotten in Westminster.”
