Commenting on the announcement made by the Prime Minister today (22 July), in which he outlined new measures the UK Government are taking to clamp down on abusive images of child and online pornography, Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George said:
“I really welcome these new proposals outlined by the Prime Minister today and I know he will have the backing of parents right across the country.
“However, this is just the start of the process; the responsibility that the whole of society has for the health and happiness of our children means that more needs to be done.
“Online companies now need to respond positively to this show of leadership by the Prime Minister and become even more proactive in rooting out this perverse material, otherwise they will have it done for them through legislation.
“The Government also needs to do more nationally and internationally, to target and catch perpetrators who creating this filth and putting children’s lives at risk.”
Mr George first raised this issue with the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones AM, back in June when in the wake of Mark Bridger’s sentencing, he challenged all governments in the UK to ‘unite’ and ‘get tough’ on those online companies ‘peddling’ images of child abuse and online pornography.
