The Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire has welcomed progress on improvements to the A487 at Dyfi Bridge following a Welsh Government statement on the National Transport Finance Plan.
The Plan, which outlines the Welsh Government’s priorities for investment in transport infrastructure over the next five years, confirms that a new crossing at Dyfi Bridge will be constructed to ensure that closures caused by flooding will be a problem of the past.
Last month, the contract for the project was awarded to Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd who will be supported by Arup. Environmental and engineering surveys will begin shortly and a public exhibition, expected in the Autumn, will outline the proposals and explain the timetable for work. Construction work is expected to begin in 2016.
Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire said:
"I am delighted that further progress has been made on this important project which will make vital improvements to the A487 at Dyfi Bridge.
"Local flooding means the bridge is often closed, creating a massive diversion.
"For many years, I have called on the Welsh Government to make progress on this project and I’m pleased that work will finally proceed, improving safety and travel times on this main arterial route from North to South Wales."
