A local AM has asked for a face to face meeting with the Minister for Economy and Transport, Edwina Hart, in an effort to expedite repairs to the crash barriers on the A483 between Newtown and Welshpool.
Following a lorry crash between Garthmyl and Abermule in January, Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, has repeatedly raised the issue of the repairs and resulting traffic delays.
Last week, Mr George raised the issue again with the Minister, which prompted Mrs Hart to provide the AM with an update on the progress of the works.
Mr George said:
“Our patience is now wearing thin.
“People are regularly asking me when the repairs will be carried out and when the road will be open for two way traffic.
“While everyone appreciates the complexities of ensuring that the pollution caused by the incident is dealt with appropriately, the delays to the repairs have been significant and I have not been satisfied with the fact that the repairs have not progressed quickly.
“I have now requested a face to face meeting with the Minister and her officials to discuss this matter and have also asked for a detailed timetable to be published on exactly when the work will be completed and an explanation of what issues are holding the work up.”
