The Welsh Conservatives have launched their campaign to retain Montgomeryshire in the forthcoming National Assembly Elections.
Russell George, the Welsh Conservative Candidate in Montgomeryshire, hosted the launch event at the Elephant & Castle Hotel in Newtown on Friday 8th April.
Mr George was joined at the event, which marks the official start of the Welsh Conservative campaign in Montgomeryshire, by guest speaker, The Rt. Hon The Lord (William) Hague of Richmond, who has endorsed Mr George’s campaign for re-election as Montgomeryshire’s Assembly Member.
Following the event, Mr George said:
“I am delighted that William Hague joined me to officially launch my re-election campaign.
“It has been an honour to serve the people of Montgomeryshire as their Assembly Member over the last five years and I hope that I have demonstrated that I have been a hard working AM who will stand up for the interests of our area.
“My priorities, if re-elected on May 5th, will be to strengthen access to health care, support and empower our schools; continue my campaign to improve broadband and mobile coverage; and stand up the interests of rural Wales including our vitally important farming industry.
“I hope to earn the people of Montgomeryshire’s trust and support for a further five year term.
The Rt. Hon The Lord Hague of Richmond added:
“I was honoured to be able to serve for five years as Foreign Secretary and Leader of the House of Commons alongside the Prime Minister to turn around our country’s economic fortunes after years of Labour over-spending which almost brought our economy and country to its knees.
“Britain’s economic recovery is strengthening but, under Labour, Wales is falling behind.
“On May 5th, Wales faces a clear choice: between changing to a better future with the Welsh Conservatives or sticking to the same old Labour ideas that aren’t working.
“Over the last five years, our Assembly Member, Russell George, has been at the heart of local campaigns and has had some notable successes and I do not want all of this hard work to be in vain.
“I will be pledging my support to Russell’s campaign and I hope that the residents of Montgomeryshire will vote for him on May 5th so that we can continue to have a strong Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for the next five years, working hard alongside Glyn Davies MP, our outstanding Welsh Conservative MP.”
