The long-awaited consultation on changes to Welshpool's One-Way traffic system has been welcomed by Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George.
The Welsh Government had previously committed to Mr George that they would investigate the options to change Welshpool’s one-way system.
The Welsh Government are now launching a consultation on potential changes to the one-way system and there will be a drop-in session at Welshpool Town Hall on Friday 14th September.
The potential changes to the One Way System in Welshpool include Brook Street and Union Street returning to two way traffic along their entire length.
It is proposed that traffic from Brook Street/Union Street will not be able to turn right into Church Street but will be directed via Church Bank and around by the Tourist Information Centre. The proposals also include a zebra crossing near the Town Hall.
Responding to the launch of the consultation, Mr George said:
"I welcome the long-awaited Welsh Government consultation on changes to the existing one-way system in Welshpool and encourage residents and businesses to take part over the next 12 weeks.
“I’ve raised the matter in the Assembly, and the previous Economy and Transport Minister made commitments to me that the town's views on potential changes will be heard.
"I had argued that alterations to the road layout would be beneficial and I am pleased that the Welsh Government is receptive to the idea of alterations being made to Welshpool’s traffic management system.
"I’d also like to congratulate Welshpool Town Council who have been committed to lobbying for change and also encourage the people of the town to come forward with their views.”
