Russell has provided his backing to the Welshpool Air Show which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary next June.
Russell showed his support for the Air Show, which is now held in memory of the late Bob Jones, by asking the First Minister to add his weight to the organisers’ bid for funding and logistical support to ensure that this event continues to grow.
After raising the matter with Carwyn Jones AM in the Senedd during weekly questions to the First Minister, Mr George said:
"Over the last nine years, the Welshpool Air Show has gone from strength to strength and the event now attracts many thousands of visitors to Mid Wales.
“The Show, which is now held in memory of the late Bob Jones, the founder of Mid Wales Airport, is rapidly becoming a major event in Montgomeryshire, and has previously played host to the Red Arrows, RAF Falcons parachute display team, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a Typhoon.
“I was delighted to be able to highlight the success of this event with the First Minister, Carwyn Jones, and I was pleased that as a result of my question, he confirmed that he was aware of the bid for grant funding which has been submitted by the organisers.
“This event has now become a mainstay of the Mid Wales calendar of events, and tribute should be paid to Welshpool Airport and Welshpool Town Council for the success of this event."
