Russell has lent his support to the Montgomery Town Crier, Sue Blower, as she embarks on her trip to New Zealand to take part in the World Town Crying Competition, hosted by Paddy Ann Pemberton, the New Zealand Town Crier.
Last year, Sue took part in the World Town Crier Competition in Chester and came 11th out of 23 and sixth highly commended in the best Ambassador category.
Earlier this year, Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, had the opportunity to raise Sue’s achievement on the floor of the National Assembly with the Minister for Public Services, Leighton Andrews.
As Sue prepares to leave for New Zealand, Russell said:
“As the only Welsh entry in the competition, Sue is not only representing Montgomeryshire but the whole of Wales.
"When I raised Sue’s achievement in the National Assembly earlier this year, the Minister said that there was no better person to represent Wales in a Town Crying Competition than someone with such an appropriate surname like Blower.
“I’m sure the people of Powys will join with me in wishing Sue all the best for the competition and we look forward to hearing how she gets on.”
