A local AM has welcomed the news that the Welshpool-based Newmor Group is to create 35 jobs over the next three years as part of a £3 million expansion.
The Newmor Group, which already has a workforce of 195, manufactures commercial wall coverings and prefinished fit out products for a range of industries.
Responding to the welcome news, Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire said:
“This is welcome news for Welshpool and the Montgomeryshire economy as a whole.
“It is a significant development and I sincerely hope that the potential for additional job creation is met over the forthcoming years.
“Positive developments such as this announcement from the Newmor Group, underline the importance of continuing to create the conditions to encourage economic growth, job creation and community support which has occurred since 2010.
“This shows that the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working. The figures speak for themselves. Under Conservatives, employment in Wales is up by 52,000 and there are over 22,000 more businesses in Wales.
“Unemployment in Montgomeryshire is now around 500 and there is a renewed confidence about the economic outlook as a result of strong economic stewardship from David Cameron. We can’t afford to put that at risk.
“As Montgomeryshire’s Assembly Member, I will continue to support Mid Wales-based businesses, who are contributing to our area’s economic regeneration.
“I will also continue to press Welsh Labour Ministers on the measures which the Welsh Government could be taking to boost that success such as extending business rates relief and improving access to finance for businesses.
“I welcome Newmor Group’s long-term commitment to Montgomeryshire and wish the company well for the future.”
