A local Assembly Member has welcomed a conference aimed at addressing the issues raised by the Mid Wales Healthcare Study.
The conference, hosted by the Welsh Government this week (Thursday 12th March) at Cefn Lea Park in Dolfor, brought healthcare professionals together to consider the recommendations contained in the Mid Wales Health Study undertaken by the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care last year.
Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire said:
"I was pleased to attend part of the conference, as health is by far the number one concern for people in Mid Wales.
“The study recommended that unnecessary journeys to access care should be eliminated to reflect travel difficulties in Mid Wales and recognised the strategic importance of Bronglais General Hospital.”
Russell George, added:
“When the report was published last Autumn, patients in Mid Wales welcomed the recognition of the geographical challenges patients face in accessing NHS services within a reasonable time frame.
“I believe in the common sense recognition that NHS services should be delivered closer to home to give patients the confidence that the NHS will be there for them in their time of need – this is why I have consistently called for an urgent care centre in Montgomeryshire.”
Notes to Editors
The Mid Wales Healthcare Study spent nine months listening to the views of patients, the public and local NHS staff across Mid Wales, reviewing the plans of the local health boards, and looking at good practice in rural healthcare across the world. The study report can be found here:
