Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George, has visited a local optometric practice in Newtown, Evans and Jones, to learn more about the work of the practice and to encourage residents to have regular eye examinations.
Following the visit, Mr George said:
“I was delighted to visit Evans and Jones to learn more about their practice.
“Most of us visit a dentist for a regular check-up but at the same time, we all too often take our eyes for granted.
“What I learned from visiting Evans and Jones was that regular eye examinations are an important health check-up and can play a vital role in the detection of various health conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.
“Evans and Jones has a commitment to the Wales Eye Care Service which allows patients in Wales to access eye care across Wales free of charge to those how meet the criteria so I would encourage people to check if they are eligible for a free check-up.
“Either way, I would encourage as many people as possible to have regular sight tests. With more than half of all sight loss in the UK being recognised as avoidable, the Wales Eye Care Service provides an opportunity to reduce incidences of sight loss.”
Meinir Evans, Principal Optometrist at Evans and Jones added:
“It was a pleasure to have Russell visit our practice and great that he takes an active interest in local businesses and service providers on the high street.”
