Montgomeryshire’s Assembly Member, Russell George AM, has said that the long-awaited repairs to the crash barriers on the A483 need to progress urgently.
Following a lorry crash between Garthmyl and Abermule in January, Mr George has directly raised the issue of the repairs and resulting traffic delays with the Transport Minister, Edwina Hart AM, on several occasions in the National Assembly for Wales.
This week (Tuesday 26th March), Mr George raised the issue again with the Leader of the House, Jane Hutt, which prompted Mrs Hart to provide the AM with an update on the progress of the works.
Responding to Mrs Hart’s letter, Mr George said:
“The works on the A483 need to progress urgently.
“I am disappointed by the ongoing delays in spite of the complications associated with the repairs such as the design of the road layout and the need to remove pollution from the Montgomery Canal.
“However, I have not been satisfied with the fact that the works have not progressed more quickly.
“I understand that the pollution will be removed from the canal by the end of this week but it is disappointing that further repair work will not be completed until nearer the Summer.
“Nevertheless, I am pleased that the manual control of the temporary traffic lights will begin this weekend at peak times to minimise delays.
“I will continue to raise the matter directly with the Minister.”
