Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has said that the future of a visitor centre which is believed to stand on the site of Owain Glyndwr's old parliament must be secured for the Welsh nation.
The Owain Glyndwr Centre in Machynlleth tells the story of the Welsh uprising from 1400.
Yet with only 1,800 people visiting the centre in the summer of 2012 and tourist numbers are down by a third this year, the management committee are examining options for the future of the centre.
Local AM, Russell George, recently visited the centre with the leader of the Welsh Conservative Group in the National Assembly, Andrew R.T. Davies AM and with Shadow Heritage Minister, Suzy Davies AM, to discuss the future of the centre with the management team.
Commenting, Mr George said:
"The Owain Glyndwr Welsh Parliament House has huge national and historic significance to Wales, Britain and Europe.
“I'm very keen to see the centre develop and I do believe that as this site has such substantial importance that the Welsh Government and its partner bodies, should take a far keener interest in securing its future.
“I was delighted that Andrew RT Davies was able to attend our meeting with the committee in Machynlleth, along with Suzy Davies who is the Welsh Conservatives spokesperson on Heritage and Culture.
“Rest assured we will be seeking to raise the profile of the Parliament House in the Senedd.”
