A Mid Wales Assembly Member has criticised Welsh Government plans to ban e-cigarettes in public places.
The Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, Russell George, voted against the plans this week (Tuesday 8th March) saying the plans will do more harm than good in efforts to cut smoking.
He said:
“I have long argued that introducing this ban would be a huge step backwards for smoking cessation, and I am deeply disappointed that the Welsh Government has brought this proposal forward.
“These measures will potentially undermine public health rather than improve it.
“We should be giving people a helping hand to quit smoking – not placing obstacles in their way."
A final vote on the proposals is due next week.
