This week, (Tuesday 2nd February), Russell George, the Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, raised the issue of potential traffic disruption with the First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM, in the National Assembly for Wales.
During questions, Mr George told the First Minister:
“It is essential that the Welsh Government do not allow large turbine components for the Tirgwynt and Garreg Llwyd wind farms to be moved during busy periods.
“There are serious traffic issues in and around Newtown, which will continue until the Newtown bypass is complete.
“I’m concerned that the general travelling public, including tourists, should not be disadvantaged more than is necessary”
Following questions, Mr George added:
“Before the Welsh Government approved these applications, I had warned of traffic chaos. But the government have now approved these wind farms.
“Therefore, I have called on the First Minster to ensure that movements do not take place during busy periods.
“The First Minister confirmed to me that his officials have been working with developers to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum but I remain sceptical and will continue to scrutinise movement plans.”
