Russell has congratulated the Cambrian Railways Partnership on their success at the Association for Community Rail Partnerships awards.
Cllr. Trevor Roberts and Rhydian Mason collected the first place award on behalf of the group in the “Outstanding Teamwork” category for the work undertaken in gaining additional services on the Cambrian lines.
The Cambrian Railways Partnership also won first place in the “Passengers Matter” category for their film “A Helping Hand” which provides advice and guidance for young people with special educational needs on how to independently plan and organise their rail journeys.
Russell George, Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, said:
“I would like to congratulate both the Cambrian Implementation Group and Cambrian Railways Partnership on their success in winning two prestigious awards at the Association for Community Rail Partnerships annual award ceremony in Torquay.
“These awards were the only awards returned to Wales on the night and this is testament to the hard work which has been put in by the team in Mid Wales.
“I was particularly pleased to see well-deserved recognition for “Helping Hand”, the film which stars students from both Coleg Ceredigion in Aberystwyth and Derwen College, Oswestry.
“Everyone involved should be proud of how this film will help thousands of young people with learning difficulties become more independent in planning their rail journeys with confidence.
“Since May, the additional train services on the Cambrian line from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury have also provided long-awaited improvements in rail services for the people of Mid Wales, providing additional opportunities for residents to access key public services and a more frequent commuter service for those needing to travel to Aberystwyth, Shrewsbury or Birmingham. I’m therefore pleased that the team involved in making these additional services a reality have been awarded with this prestigious accolade.”
