Russell George has welcomed an announcement from the Post Office that it will now accept banking transactions from HSBC’s business customers as well as HSBC’s personal customers.
The move coincides with HSBC’s recent decision to close its branches in Llanfyllin and Llanfair Caereinion from Friday 12th February.
Montgomeryshire’s AM, Russell George said:
“The Post Office’s announcement is particularly welcome especially following the disappointing news that HSBC intends to close its branches in Llanfyllin and Llanfair Caereinion.
"The closure of banks is having a devastating effect on our rural villages and the commitment from the Post Office to extend its services to HSBC’s business customers as well as individuals will provide a lifeline to small rural businesses who would otherwise have to travel to larger towns such as Welshpool to make banking transactions.
“I hope that the announcement from the Post Office will herald progress on a new model of ‘community banking’ to safeguard rural communities from further bank closures.”
