A local Assembly Member has asked to meet with the new Director of BT in Wales after a spike in complaints from residents in Montgomeryshire regarding telephone and broadband faults with some residents facing a period of over two months for a phone connection.
Over the last five years, the Assembly Member for Montgomeryshire, Russell George, who is also the Chair of the National Assembly’s Cross Party Group on Digital Communications, has been at the forefront of the campaign for improvements in phone and broadband connectivity in Mid Wales.
After receiving a flurry of complaints in recent weeks, Mr George said:
“I am keen on meeting with the new Director of BT Wales to ascertain exactly why there has been an increase in phone and broadband related complaints.
“I appreciate that we have been experiencing some unusually wet weather lately which may be a reason for delays in resolving faults but I am keen on seeking definitive answers for frustrated residents who find themselves cut off.
“In a couple of weeks, I will also be welcoming the Managing Director of BT Openreach, the organisation responsible for telecoms infrastructure, to the National Assembly and I will be sure to raise these issues along with issues surrounding the on-going rollout of superfast broadband in Montgomeryshire.
“I will keep the residents of Montgomeryshire informed about the outcome of my discussions but please don’t hesitate to contact me with any issues in advance of my meeting so that I can raise it with BT’s senior management directly.”
